North Tyneside disability Forum
Not Young Peoples Choices – without young peoples voices
Summary of the Project (what did you set out to do and what were your main activities?)
We wanted to update our booklet about what is available for disabled young people in North Tyneside. That’s meant researching and editing and in some cases completely re writing. We used the funds to pay travel around our area – to get out to see things – which is always best BUT then COVID 19 hit. Still – we have enjoyed having a mission – it’s a shame the end product isn’t of use beyond us having learned about researching, using phone and internet to get information and taking photos to use. We need to be able to see what’s available in the next few months.
Results of the Project (how did it go and what impact did you have?)
A lot of what we had is now out of date – groups have closed – clubs have shut and whilst we really enjoyed doing the work – its no good publishing what we have now because it’s simply wrong. If the COVID 19 application pot to Alek Dickson support hadn’t closed early, we would have asked for some help to do a weekly newsletter for all the young people shielding so that we could share each others stories and folk wouldn’t feel quite so cut off.
